In March 2019 Optima joined forces with Barley Communications to bid for the World Energy Council (WEC) Website Redesign.
The World Energy Council is the leading impartial global network of energy leaders, committed to the sustainable use and supply of energy for the benefit of all.
WEC is a 3,000+ membership organisation and has a significant global presence. The council works across the entire energy spectrum, including all forms of energy, power and utilities, transmission, government, resources, finance, technology, transport, insurance and consultancy.
The Website promotes the triennial World Energy Congress, other global and regional events, ministerial roundtables, Innovation forums, Future Energy Leaders (FELS), World Energy Academy, regional Futures workshops, partners & patrons and Insights Toolkit including: Scenarios, Trilemma, Issues Monitor, Dynamic Resilience & Innovation. The World Energy Council defines, enables and accelerates successful energy transitions which are inclusive, clean and sustainable in both ecological and commercial terms.
The website stages were delivered jointly by Barley and Optima to achieve the key goal of delivering a final website in just five months ahead of the World Energy Congress. The evidence collected by Barley interviewing stakeholders and team members followed by a workshop to plan and plot the customer journey and site map helped shape the structure of the site. Optima attended the scoping sessions, developed the sitemap, wireframes, initial visuals and stylings of the site leading on to the full build of the site on Expression Engines. We helped to automate data and content migration alongside assisting Barley and the Council through training sessions to manage their content and update old legacy content.
Challenges included the migration of selected and preferred content from the existing site which had to be reinstated to ensure users could look at legacy content but also that Google could continue to score the site highly. We redrew all of their maps and created a newer, fresher online styling building on their existing brand. We are continuing to work with WEC now on developing their site and in time we plan to work on their microsites to pull all the content together in the future and leverage their Google ranking.
The new website has been hailed as a huge improvement on the old site and already seen an impressive rise in responses with the ‘want to join’ form – including many key industry leaders.
Optima see this as the beginning to a long-term relationship with the WEC team building our knowledge even further and helping support the team there with both on and offline communications.
