International Diabetes Federation International Diabetes Federation Kids website

A website aimed at improving the understanding of diabetes within schools around the world by providing workshops and vital resources for children and teachers.

International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Mobile Website Page Design

Optima developed a new website for The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) aimed at improving understanding of diabetes among children, their peers, and school communities around the world. The goal was to create a platform that supports education in schools – raising awareness, promoting empathy, and helping to reduce stigma around type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

IDF Kids is designed as an engaging, age-appropriate resource for use in classrooms and group settings, as well as by children and families at home. We worked closely with the IDF team to structure the site in a way that speaks clearly to younger audiences while remaining informative and reliable for educators and parents. The result is a platform that strikes a balance between accessibility, education and warmth – encouraging open conversations and understanding of what it means to live with diabetes.

The visual identity builds on the core IDF brand, but introduces a more playful and illustrative approach to appeal to younger users. Podcasts from professional athletes, Kids stories, toolkits and explainer tools help break down complex topics in a way that is easy to follow and engaging to explore. Educational content is organised around key learning goals and everyday questions – from how the body uses insulin, to what to do if a classmate is having a hypo.

The build follows best practice for accessibility and mobile responsiveness, ensuring the content is usable in schools, homes and healthcare settings around the world.

IDF Kids supports the International Diabetes Federation’s wider mission of global diabetes education and prevention by giving schools and communities a practical, approachable tool to foster understanding and support. We’re proud to have helped bring this important initiative to life and to contribute to building a more informed, inclusive future for young people living with diabetes.
