Branston British Potato 2021 exhibition stand creates a natural impact for Branston

We created a sustainable concept for the show, building on Branston’s reputation as a leader in the potato field.

The British Potato show brings together those working in £multi billion potato industry.

Every two years, people involved in the growing, handling, processing and retailing of potatoes come together for this ‘seed to shopping trolley’ event. Optima has worked with Branston on their presence at the event for the last 20 years. We have created exhibition spaces incorporating a mini cooper car, giant digital screens and even conveyor belts serving food. A fully working kitchen is always included on Branston’s stand to provide bacon butties and hot drinks to hungry show visitors. The stand also has a meeting area as the show is an opportunity for Branston, one of the UK’s leading potato suppliers and co-sponsors of the show, to engage with growers, agronomists and partners.

For BP2021, Branston was keen to highlight the company’s sustainable practices and commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030. Optima created the focal point of a ‘living’ moss wall to promote this message. We worked with the stand builders to recycle as many structural elements as possible from materials salvaged from previous shows. New plywood accents were used to contribute to the tactile, natural aesthetic.

The design process for exhibition stands involves planning and visualising space utilising 3D rendering. We create simple but effective models using ‘Sketch Up’ to appreciate the stand space and graphics from different levels and angles.

The sustainable business practices that Branston made part of the conversation at BP2021 included showcasing technological innovations the company has developed. The Branston stand displayed ‘TuberScan’, the technology that gives growers complete visibility of their crops throughout the growing season, giving them data to maximise yields and more effective crop utilisation for Branston.

We were delighted to work with Branston following the British Potato show to reuse exhibition materials which saw the moss wall safely transported and installed at Branston’s HQ in Lincoln for staff and visitors to enjoy. Optima is excited to work with Branston again on how we innovate their presence at this year’s BP2023.

Optima helped Branston visualise the spatial aspects of the exhibition stand at each stage of the design process.
