Web Developer

Full-time, permanent, office/hybrid

£30-£38k p/a, dependent on experience.

We’re looking for a Web Developer who’s ready to play an active role in delivering high-quality digital work. At Optima, we’ve been producing thoughtful, effective design solutions for over 30 years. As part of our growing digital team, you’ll help bring ideas to life – building robust, user-focused websites and contributing to projects that span sectors, audiences, and platforms.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with account managers, project managers, designers, and developers to deliver work that meets – and exceeds – client expectations. You’ll be supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to develop your skills as part of an ambitious and collaborative team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with all areas of the business to create engaging, functional, and high-performing websites.
  • Develop and maintain WordPress and other CMS-based websites.
  • Translate creative designs into accurate, responsive, pixel-perfect builds
  • Identify and resolve issues through testing, debugging, and optimisation
  • Ensure websites are secure, fast, and easy to use
  • Carry out quality assurance on your own work and support reviews across projects
  • Support clients with updates, fixes, and ongoing enhancements
  • Apply best practices in UX, accessibility, and modern web standards
  • Contribute to a wide variety of projects across different sectors and platforms
  • Support the wider team throughout all stages of delivery

We’re a close-knit team that values collaboration, clear thinking, and high standards. You’ll be supported by our development team, including our Web Development Lead and Web Director, with regular guidance, technical input, and opportunities to grow.

Who we’re looking for

  • Minimum one years of commercial experience as a developer, ideally in an agency environment
  • A solid grounding in modern HTML and SCSS
  • JavaScript experience, React a plus
  • Experienced with PHP, ideally understanding OOP fundamentals
  • Familiarity with common content management systems, specifically WordPress 
  • Familiarity with Version Control
  • Worked with APIs
  • Core understanding of good user experience and accessibility
  • Solid communication skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn and improve
  • Problem-solving mindset, strong mathematical skills, and a keen eye for detail
  • A team player
  • Hardworking and flexible

Hybrid Working

Optional home working for up to two days a week, the rest of the week office-based to help support and mentor junior staff and collaborate as a team.

*Available after probationary period and on agreement with line manager

Extra Holiday

We have always gifted the team an additional three days each Christmas so that the team can enjoy a longer festive break – the doors close for Christmas and open again after new year.
