29 July 2008

Optima Graphic Design Consultants were approached to design a cook book for the The Orders of St John Care Trust.

Optima have been working with The Orders of St John Care Trust for 7 years now. The Trust was established in 1991 as a not for profit charitable trust and currently operates 74 homes in four counties including Lincolnshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. It is responsible for the care of some 3,300 residents and employs 3,500 staff.

We were approached to design a cook book for the OSJCT using recipes from residents and staff from the homes across the country, some old nearly lost classics, some new favourites. The book will be sold across the counties at a non-profitable cost to help raise the profile of the Trust. The design has to be appealing to all ages with good use of space and imagery, which was shot by local students, residents and staff. Optima have created clean page spreads enabling recipes to be easily followed. We have also established a colour palette which was taken forward throughout the publication. Colour coded sections have been created for the recipes including full page images of the dishes which helped break up the text pages. Most importantly the final product has been designed to reflect the hard work it has taken to compile the recipes from all involved and we hope it will be a publication they can be proud of.

The final document consists of 206 pages with a frosted polypropylene front and back cover which allows for any spills or splashes to be wiped clean. The wiro-bound spine should also allow the user to have the book open on a flat surface while working through a recipe. It's a very exciting project for Optima to be involved with and we look forward to reporting how successful the book will be. Any one wishing to buy a copy should please contact Stuart at Optima who will put you in touch with the OSJCT.
